Duration April 1st - May 29th 2026

TWO COMPONENTS:
​
April 1 - May 1 online educational program ( Weekend online sessions 1.5 hours )
​
May 22- 29 2026 in person program @ Christina Lake British Columbia , Canada.

Artists are expected to attend both educational and studio components
Curriculum:
Portfolio reviews, mentorship by renown curators and mentors
Working with communities educational program
Creating intimate connection to the blooming earth
Plant and mysticism from mesoamerican tradition and multiple worldviews
Healing with plants
Exhibition opportunity at local gallery space
Artist Talks
Healers and poisons in the plant world
The importance of ceremony when building connection with plants
Field Trips
Artists workshops
Artists body nourishment with sauna, cold plunges, yoga

​Creating meaningful art that inspires and transforms others requires us to be in stillness and pay attention.,It requires us to open to new ways of seeing and making.
This call for submissions is for artists that:
Are seekers of deep connection to plants
Explore their botanical art practice from non western perspectives
Are open to non traditionals ways of creating and discussing art
Artists with anti colonial, anti exploitative practices
Creatives ready to surrender to the magic of the world
Self aware artists seeking a community of like minded artists
Artists that are seeking healing and transformation of their art practices through plants and earth
Artists ready to work on radical acceptance of self and others

Only 4-6 artists will be selected for this residency.
Cost of residency:
We kindly ask in reciprocity $2000 for the cost recovery of the labour of all the guest, facilitators and workshop leaders. This includes a wonderful shared accommodation ,shared studio resources, field trips, meals, events, lectures, workshops, pool, sauna, cold plunge, yoga area and bibliography access.
Canadian artists can apply for Santa Rosa scholarship.

We believe in finding creative ways to remove barriers for artists from underserved communities who have traditionally faced financial difficulties attending art residencies.
​
The place:
Santa Rosa Arts is located in 35 acres of forested land with a creek that runs through the property, home to various microclimates, a spring and a vast diversity of wildlife and botanicals. Expansive sunsets dark skies are perfect for star or moon gazing while hearing wildlife at a distance. A wading pool in the property invites residents to float while stargazing.
Conceptual visual artists, musicians, performance artists and writers ready to explore water in physical and spiritual forms non conforming to western art practices are invited to apply.

Note that our location is a natural resource area with plenty of wildlife and risks and blessings inherent to the natural world. High hills and uneven terrain are part of the experience.
